Anna-Kay Thompson, Research Assistant

I wanted to work at Joslin Diabetes Center because I studied nutrition in college and diabetes was a large part of the major. I wanted to be more exposed to the disease and help in any way with treatments and preventative methods, and what better place to do that but at Joslin? I applied and chose Joslin because I was being offered trainings and experiences that only few research positions offer. I am able to work directly with patients, recruiting them to our study, and performing clinic visits.
I enjoy working here because the environment and staff are friendly. I love my job. No two days are the same - whenever I see patients, every case is different and exciting. I also love the flexibility and exposure that I am getting here. I am excited to come to work because I love what I do.
I get to interact with different patients and personalities, which is a great learning experience. If you enjoy being in a warm environment where the number one priority is helping to change the lives of others through science and research, then this is the place for you. If you enjoy a challenging work environment where there is always a push for new ideas, then this is the place for you. If you want more exposure to medicine and research, then this is the place for you.
I am a part of a team that is trying to prevent early kidney loss in people with Type I diabetes. We hope that our study will help to change the lives of many people with Type I diabetes and I am proud to help. I think my efforts are well appreciated here, especially by my team. We also have weekly meetings that strengthen our team and keep us all on the same page.
I love it here and I am so excited that I chose Joslin and that Joslin chose me!!!!!!
